Coor’s environmental policy sets the framework for its environmental activities. At present, Coor’s Swedish, Danish and Finnish operations pursue differing environmental policies, albeit with similar content. They share the basic concept of endeavouring to continually reduce the impact of operations on the external environment.
To put its environmental policies in concrete terms, Coor sets environmental goals each year. The group goal is for Coor’s Environmental Index to exceed 50, the Environmental Index being a tool whereby all its central staff functions and service units set environmental goals that are relevant to that individual function/service unit. These goals focus on activities including reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions from transportation, and the management and disposal of chemical products. The goals are monitored once yearly, with their results demonstrating Coor’s environmental performance, which is used in our continuous improvement process.
Employees possessing the necessary skills to manage and reduce the environmental impact of daily activities is an important prerequisite for being able to reduce this environmental impact. Accordingly, Coor conducts a range of environmental training packages intended to enhance their skills in global and local environmental issues. One example is Coor’s compulsory environmental license, which all employees must obtain within six months of joining the company.
Monitoring
The group’s environmental initiatives are monitored internally by means of ongoing mapping and audits, and externally by accreditation bodies Det Norske Veritas and Bureau Veritas. The operations in Sweden, Denmark and parts of Finland are ISO14001 certified. Certification of the remaining Finnish operations and the operations in Norway is planned for 2008.
