Coor Service Management and the Danish Police have been awarded the 2014 Facilities Management Prize at DFM's annual conference in Copenhagen. The jury's motivation for the award was that the unique collaboration across the private and public sectors generates innovative solutions and inspirational best practice. The award was presented by the Danish Facilities Management network (DFM) and Danish building society Boligfonden Kuben.

"Continuous improvement and innovation are central to Coor Service Management's internal culture. We continuously seek improvements that reduce the customer's costs while also improving our service delivery, and our work alongside the Danish Police has helped us realize this vision. The work has been inspiring and challenging, and this award recognizes this," commented Jørgen Utzon, President of Coor Service Management Denmark.

The partnership is based on a collaborative approach between staff and management teams across both organizations aimed at improving health, safety, environment and quality.

"The traditional relationship between supplier and customer across public and private operations often reduces problem-solving to inflexible contractual issues. We've succeeded in changing this. Our partnership with Coor facilitates joint problem-solving across both organizations, and we continuously adjust and improve our collaboration. In order for it to be successful, both supplier and customers have to think outside the box and to commit to the partnership. This is truly a unique collaboration, and we're very proud of it," commented Bettina Jensen, Departmental Manager of Group Services at the Danish Police.

Coor's collaboration with the Danish Police service began in late 2012 and represents Coor's biggest FM outsourcing contract in Denmark to date. The contract includes delivery of receptionist services, cleaning services, food and beverage services, postal services, services for 2,200 vehicles, lost property services, internal building maintenance and janitorial services at 220 locations, encompassing some 14,000 police staff.

The contract with Coor Service Management has generated annual savings of some 30%, or DKK 78 m, without any reduction in service levels.

The 2014 Facilities Management Prize rewards excellence in property and facilities management, and is awarded by the Danish Facilities Management network (DFM) and Danish building society Boligfonden Kuben. The award includes a DKK 100,000 cash prize and is being awarded for the sixth time. Coor Service Management and the Danish Police will use the prize money to produce an information seminar about the project.
