Why have you outsourced your support functions?
Clients from around the Nordics give their views on various questions. In this issue, they answer the question of why they've outsourced their support functions.
ManpowerGroup (Sweden)
Kent Nordvall, Head of Procurement, Real Estate and Security ManpowerGroup
ManpowerGroup has decided to outsource its support functions to enable us to focus on our customers, candidates and resource consultants. We’re also doing it to control costs. The idea that you have better cost control when you run your support functions in-house is a myth—it’s just the opposite. In addition, you can set standards for your supplier to deliver at a good SLA level, which is also hard when you’re running services yourself. This is what ManpowerGroup has learnt from experience.

Danish Police Service (Denmark)
Bettina Jensen, Group Services Manager at the Danish Police Service
Coor has substantial service management experience on large, complex operations, and has demonstrated that they can perform these tasks satisfactorily, for a competitive price. In addition, we’ve gained an innovative supplier, which like several of the other market players, is increasing the share of services delivered with their own staff. Coor also means the Police Service has got a provider that ensures that potential subcontractors satisfy the high standards that the Danish Police Service must set as a public body.
Arcus (Norway)
Dag Sørensen, Facility Manager, Arcus Gruppen AS
More flexibility, a sharper focus on cost and cost control, and finding more savings opportunities that we don’t think we would have done if we’d have performed the services in-house. This is the foundation of ArcusGruppen’s decision to outsource.
Kemira (Finland)
Ilkka Palsola, Development Manager, Kemira
We wanted to concentrate on our own core business. As a result of many of our people retiring and staff changeovers, outsourcing support functions to a good provider seemed like a good solution. We started to outsource service deliveries in cleaning and reception in 2008. The most important thing is for our service provider to keep its promises, and that there is a good balance between quality and price. Because we’ve been satisfied with the service Coor delivers, we renewed our contract last year.
