The modern workplace in numbers

We asked 1,300 employees and decision makers in the Nordics about their different needs in the post pandemic workplace. Here are some of our findings.

40% of office space was underutilized already before the pandemic. That number is now expected to increase.

The work life is changing

The work life is constantly changing and so are the expectations people have of the places they choose to work and of their employers. Our recent report “Join the Workplace Revolution” shows that certain areas stand out regarding how Nordic employees and decision-makers view their workplaces.

The modern employee expects more
Overall, 69% of employees are generally happy with their workplace today and many see that their workplace has an important role to play in their futures. However, in the wake of the pandemic, almost 4 in 10 employees expect full work location flexibility and many expect better office experiences in the immediate future in order to return and stay.

“36% of employees are prepared to change jobs if no improvements occur in the office in the next two years”.

The employer's balancing act
How do you achieve a balance between the needs of the business, the environment and the employees? Our study shows that different companies have different approaches to flexible work; however, most have already adopted a flexible work model. At the same time, one in two companies experience challenges in achieving a desired office presence and a majority are planning structural changes to their workplaces in order to adapt to the new flexible work reality.

59% of the companies are planning structural changes to their workplaces in 2022 and 2023.

Three focus areas within Workplace Services
To help our customers with the balancing act of meeting modern employee expectations, environmental challenges and business needs connected to their workplaces, we focus our development efforts in three areas, human-centric workplace experiences, truly sustainable services and being the number one choice for workplace professionals.

Workplace human-centric | Coor

Human-Centric workplace experiences

We believe that workplace experiences of the future to a greater extent must be designed and delivered with the service users’ needs as a starting point. To do that, we need to excel in both understanding what motivates and drives them, and how we should design and deliver their desirable experiences.

“How attractive an employer will be in the future depends on their insights into employees’ motivations and needs.”

Joachim Meyer Andersen, Customer Experience Manager at Coor.

There are many ways in which we can support our customers in gaining insight about employee experiences and needs. We can use periodical surveys to understand overall workplace satisfaction and pulse surveys to find out how a service user experienced a specific workplace event. By combining surveys with other service design tools and methods like observations, personas, journey mapping and even space utilisation sensors, we gain a deeper understanding about behaviours, motivations and experience gaps. Helping our customers build a service user insight machine will be key when we help them design and deliver the experiences needed to attract and retain talent in the future.

“An attractive experience at the office demands holistic thinking”

Human-centric workplaces also require a holistic way of looking at experiences. The ability to combine the design of physical layouts and environments with digital tools and technology, and the capability of delivering the right services by the right people at the right time and place, will be key to making these experiences come to life. And the ability and capabilities to follow up on and improve experiences day-by-day will be key to staying relevant over time.

We strive tirelessly to build the teams and full-service solutions that enable our customers to create human-centric workplace experiences throughout the whole life cycle of their workplaces, from strategy definition to delivery and improvements every day. Through these teams and solutions, we can truly make every workplace moment matter.
